Murter Diving

Diving in Murter

Murter is one of the islands which lies off of the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, in the Adriatic Sea. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge so easily accessible. There are numerous dive centres and dive resorts on this island with diving professionals who provide both dive courses as well as guided dives to the best spots. The underwater environments here include many different rock formations such as caves, canyons, steep walls, and more. Accompanying the rock formations is a multitude of marine flora and fauna creating a rainbow coloured underwater scene. There is something to see on every dive here. 

Best time to dive

Diving in Murter, Croatia and in the Adriatic Sea is possible year round. The waters, however, are the warmest in the summer between June and September, in these months, the waters are also the calmest. In the winter, the water temperatures range between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius, while in the summer they go up to 25 degrees Celsius. The visibility is above average, between 10 and 30 metres, leaning mostly towards 30 metres. 

Types of diving

The main diving destination from Murter is Kornati National Park. Each dive site here provides something unique for divers to revel about once on the surface again. There are large and steep walls, many overhang environments to swim through, airplane wrecks and shipwrecks, an abundance of marine life and more. There are numerous dive sites which have new charm once visited at night and many dive sites here cater perfectly to dive courses. 

What to see

Both the marine flora as well as the marine fauna are flourishing here. The flora includes some stunning species including Gorgonians, Yellow Corals, Sea Fans, an array of Sponges of every colour under the sun, and more. Some of the fauna include many species of colourful Nudibranchs, Lobsters and more Crustaceans, Moray Eels, Octopus and more critters. Some of the fish which fill these waters include Jacks, Black Damselfish, Bream, Rainbow Wrasse and Sardines. There is something to spot here on every dive! 

Best places to dive

The Dome is a spectacular dive site which holds a large reef wall which forms an overhang, hence the name. The wall is densely packed with colourful marine flora. It can be enjoyed by novice divers at 10 metres and technical divers at 50 metres.

Stuka is a German fighter jet which went down in 1941 and now lies at 28 metres for many divers to come and have a unique wreck diving experience.

Kamicac is another wall dive which has numerous cracks and crevices which hold species such as Lobsters and other Crustaceans, Octopus and many more!
