Vaavu Atoll, also referred to as Felidhoo Atoll, is a small atoll just south of the capital Male which is growing in popularity for scuba diving. Despite its proximity to the capitol, the atoll is pleasantly undeveloped though there are a number of dive centers on the populated islands and plenty of dive resorts on dedicated island resorts. The scuba diving in Vaavu Atoll is well known for the deep channels, or kandus, which boast fierce, fast-flowing drift dives. Best suited to more experienced divers, these dives yield abundant shark and manta ray action whilst to the east of the atoll is the stunning, 50km long Fotteyo Barrier Reef.
