Diving in Soma Bay
Soma Bay, located on a peninsula, surrounded by the Red Sea in Egypt about 45 kilometers south of Hurghada. A more luxurious diving destination with multiple upscale resorts and their diving resorts. There are glorious sandy beaches and sparkling waters surrounded by spectacular desert mountains.
Underwater here there are just as many spectacles to see in all shapes and formations with the reef inhabitants and predators which glide past. The house reefs here stretch a few kilometers long and dive sites further out from shore are made up of large coral pinnacles to dive around and revel over.
Best time to dive
Soma Bay diving is possible all year because the Red Sea offers comfortable diving temperatures and conditions throughout. The temperature ranges between 21 degrees Celsius in February, the coldest month, and 27 degrees Celsius in August, the warmest month. Visibility in this region is above average for most of the year ranging between 12 and 22 metres, with some days being over 30 metres.
Types of diving
Due to the easy access, sandy, shore dive sites and the bay-like protected dive sites, this is a perfect area for beginners and dive courses. The lagoon at Ras Abu Soma is the perfect sheltered dive area for dive courses to take place. It may not be the top destination for tec divers wanting to dive deep, but it is a dive destination where divers will be constantly entranced by the colors and life which this part of the Red Sea offers. Aside from the beginner courses, and if divers want to specifically visit the shore sites, the rest of the diving is done mostly from boats as the main dive sites are located approximately 10 minutes from the harbour.
